This was my first time at Hand and Stone and I’m not sure what to expect at this point. It was a satisfying first experience and the front desk staff were phenomenal at scheduling and checking me in.

Good therapist, however it is difficult to make appointments. I can't get appointments at my preferred time.

The suggested gratuity continues to rise and is more than 50% of the massage cost for members. I use massage therapy to relieve muscle pain for a medical condition and insurance covers the cost of the massage but not gratuity. I’m paying nearly half the amount of the massage for gratuity making it nearly impossible to maintain the pace of my membership because it is cost prohibitive. I’d rather the cost reflect a more accurate price so that therapists are paid appropriately and gratuity is a more reasonable tip on service rather than paying the salary of the therapist. There is no way a member price should be $70 and suggested gratuity $35 for excellent service. The gratuity a year ago used to be $20 for excellent service. That’s a 75% increase and it squeezes customers making it a service only the wealthy can afford.

I was very satisfied… This Reston location was far better then Winchester in the ability to schedule appointments! The got me right in. Winchester had zero availability for three months!!!

The checkout/payment procedure. The man at the front very heavily tried to sell me membership options, gift cards, etc. I said I itallg I wasn’t interested and must have brought up the word “membership” 10 more times while I tried to pay. The heavy sales tactic ruined the relaxing experience.

The facial was nice but felt I was being sold a very expensive treatment in the middle of my service. After I said I currently did t want to move forward with the service I was pushed on it a second time Before leaving I said I would want to see materials about the option and was shown a sign in the lobby.

My massage began 5-10 minutes behind schedule, and the delay was not acknowledged by staff. That being said, I was still provided a 50-minute massage. My masseuse was very friendly, a strong communicator, and made the massage an overall pleasant experience. I'd highly recommend him.

This time the therapist did not leave a hot towel to wipe off, so I left pretty greasy.
