A lot of the animals weren't out.

I was very disappointed with my visit to the zoo. A large portion of the exhibits were closed due to renovation or animal illness. Aside from that, the facility itself was not the cleanest. There was bird feces spread throughout the park due to the ducks and peacocks that roam loose. On a separate note, the majority of the snack bars were closed forcing us to have to walk further than we should have in order to purchase snacks. All in all I would have to say the Rio Grande Zoo has gone down hill and is not very appealing to the visitors.

Lots of animals were not available to see

This was a field trip for my class, and our school's entire 3rd grade level. I made these reservations in September. I was told to make my reservations early, although I'm not sure why; it does not appear that the park limits the number of visitors. There were so many other schools there today that is was difficult to see the animals, and it was nerve wracking trying to keep track of each group because the zoo was so over crowded. We will not be coming back as a field trip! This day was a disaster! The zoo should seriously consider limiting the amount of students allowed to visit on a given day. When it's overcrowded, no one enjoys the visit!

Most of the animals were not visible or not in their cages
