Exxon was out of gas....

The only employee of this gas station went MIA during his shift. When I pulled up to the pump, there was another woman returning to her car after searching for him in vain. She remarked he had done this before—once to go get a pizza. We both waited for a few minutes, as this took place in NJ where we don't pump our own gas. I tried paying at the pump with my debit card but the gas wouldn't flow; I don't know if the pumps were disabled while he was away or what. I hope I don't get charged $15 for the gas I never got. Ended up leaving and going to a Hess station further down the highway.
