Gas is pretty expensive even with Safeway rewards. Is it really better quality? Location was clean and everything worked.

It's a gas station. They have gas. So it's the other stuff that sets one apart from another. Location. Refreshments. Clean bathrooms. And price. Aside from that, it's a gas station.
